Titel und Beschreibung Englisch The life cycle assessment of passenger cars. The life cycle assessment shows the climate compatibility of different forms of car propulsion. For this purpose, greenhouse gas emissions and energy expenditure were compared. Both the upstream and downstream emissions that occur during the production of the vehicle and the energy source were taken into account, as well as the direct emissions from driving. The analysis of 39 different combinations of drive technologies, fuels and vehicle segments shows that battery electric cars (BEV) are the most climate-friendly in all vehicle segments when using 100% electricity from renewable energy sources. Alternative technologies such as hydrogen drives have similarly low greenhouse gas emissions but lower energy efficiency than BEVs. Downsizing, resource-conserving production and recycling help to further improve the eco-balance of electric cars.
