Titel und Beschreibung Englisch Food security and pesticide reduction. Pesticide reduction is a core issue of the Green Deal and an important element for sustainable agriculture and a sustainable approach to the environment. In order to achieve the reduction targeted in the Green Deal, the European Commission presented a proposal for ‘Sustainable Use Regulation’, which was discussed intensively at European and national level. The threat to food security, an increase in the cost of agricultural production and thus competitive disadvantages were cited as arguments against a reduction in pesticides. This study examines various aspects relating to food security and the external costs of pesticide use. In addition, approaches are shown as to how food security can be achieved despite pesticide reduction.
