Resource title and description in English The Renewable Energy Expansion Act (EAG, Federal Law Gazette I No 150/2021) aims to ensure that in 2030 100% of Austrian electricity consumption is generated from domestic renewable energy sources. Based on production in 2020, annual electricity generation from renewable sources is expected to increase by 27 TWh by 2030. Of these, 11 TWh on photovoltaics, 10 TWh on wind, 5 TWh on hydropower and 1 TWh on biomass. In addition, the share of renewable gas is to be increased to 5 TWh per year. A current Transition scenario shows that to achieve the 2030 target of 100% renewable electricity and climate neutrality in 2040 require a significantly higher expansion of renewable energy and imports, especially hydrogen.
