Resource title and description in English Protected areas of the European network of nature protection areas (Natura 2000) based on the Birds Directive (Directive 2009/147/EC on the conservation of wild birds). The Natura 2000 sites are selected by the Member States and the European Commission following strictly scientific criteria according to the directive. In Vienna there are four sites of this kind: the Danube Wetlands National Park (Nationalpark Donau-Auen, Vienna areas), the Lainz Wildlife Reserve (Lainzer Tiergarten), and two landscape protection areas in the south of Vienna (Landschaftsschutzgebiet Liesing, Landschaftsschutzgebiet Bisamberg).
