Resource title and description in English Research and development in the field of environmental technology. The report describes topics and trends in environmental technology research at Austria's universities and non-university research institutions. As a basis for this, the R&D surveys of Statistics Austria are evaluated and additional research is carried out with the relevant actors. The seventh updated evaluation now shows the data status for 2021, according to which 246 R&D institutions conduct research and development relevant to environmental technology. The number of employees at research institutions has decreased by 4.1% compared to 2019 and stands at around 9,079 people. This corresponds to 31% of employees in R&D in all sectors of the economy excluding companies. R&D activities continue to focus on the areas of climate protection, energy, waste, raw materials and resources. Research institutions in the field of “Bioeconomy and bio-based industry” are presented in a separate chapter.
