Resource title and description in English NPP Borssele LTE Phase 1 Environmental Impact Assessment. Expert Statement. The Borssele NPP consists of one reactor with a capacity of 1,366 MWth and 485 MWe. The NPP has been in operation since 1973, i.e. for over 50 years. Accord ing to Art. 15a of the Dutch Nuclear Energy Act, Borssele may continue to produce energy only until the end of 2033, which corresponds to a service life of 60 years. The operating life is now to be extended due to a political decision from 2021. This requires an amendment of the Nuclear Energy Act. An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is being carried out for this amendment; a second EIA phase is also planned.
