This report provides a comprehensive insight into the current state of knowledge on perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS). Topics such as terminology, properties, manufacturing processes, applications, exposure sources and pathways, health risks, regulatory measures and perspectives for a PFAS-free future are presented. A special focus is on the compilation of Austrian study results, especially on exposure. This addresses the need for national, Europe-wide and global regulatory measures to restrict PFASs.
