Resource title and description in English Register of suspected contaminated sites and contaminated site atlas. As of 31 December 2024, 70,580 contaminated sites and old deposits as well as 353 contaminated sites are known in Austria. The recording of contaminated sites is largely complete. In 2024, nine contaminated sites were identified and four were remediated or secured. This is shown in the Federal Environment Agency's annual Suspected Sites Register and Contaminated Sites Atlas report. The basis for the processing is the Contaminated Sites Remediation Act, which stipulates that the recorded areas must be processed. The investigation of suspected contaminated sites and the assessment of the environmental risk posed or likely to be posed by contaminated sites are essential for this. The report provides information on the processing status of the registered sites and on the progress made in the remediation of contaminated sites throughout Germany and in the individual federal states.
